The Scimitar-horned oryx originated in the desert region of northern Africa. Mature bulls have long curved horns ranging from 32 to 40 inches. Exceptional bulls are 37+ inches with heavy bases. They are a white antelope with orange shoulders and neck region. Mature bulls weigh approximately 400lbs. Even with a well-placed bullet, the oryx are extremely tough and difficult to bring down. We recommend a 7mm magnum as the smallest acceptable caliber, loaded with a well-built 160gr bullet such as a Nosler partition.
The best time to hunt these animals is June to January.
