Whitetail Deer Inventory and Assessment Practices

Trail cameras are used to help inventory and score deer during the months of August and early September. In addition, approximately 80 miles of spotlighting is used every fall to help evaluate buck to doe ratios and fawn recruitment for the year.

Beginning in September, our wildlife staff will spend between 4 and 6 hours each day sitting in blinds and scouting animals to ensure that we are prepared for your hunt, and are competent in judging the desired animals.  During these sits, our staff video tapes the bucks, then as a group we review the tapes to decide the age of the animal, approximate score, and if the animal is the appropriate age and size for harvest.
